Have you seen a job or training course but can't get there? Are transport difficulties stopping you from getting to work or education? Just started a new job but can't afford the travel? We may be able to help.
Wheels to Work Derbyshire
Rural Action Derbyshire has been hosting our moped loan project, Wheels to Work Derbyshire, since April 2004. The project is aimed at those people living in rural Derbyshire who wish to access work and training placements, but who are prevented from doing so because of transport difficulties.
The project offers a 6 month moped loan to eligible clients, hopefully giving them time to save up for their own transport solution at the end of the loan period. The client is provided with motorcycle training, protective clothing, and a heavy duty lock for the moped. The moped is insured by Wheels to Work Derbyshire, is covered for breakdowns, and is also serviced and maintained by the project. The client needs to pay £20 per week in loan payments whilst on the scheme, plus buy the fuel of course.
Those preferring a bicycle to get to work or training are able to buy a push bike or power assisted bike from the project over a 6 month period, but in this case the bicycle is the client’s to keep once the payments are made in full.
Both of these schemes are funded by Derbyshire County Council and Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
Ways to Work Bolsover
Ways to Work Bolsover offers various transport options to the residents of Bolsover district in order for them to access work or training placements.
In additions to moped loan and bicycles, the project can also help with bus, train and taxi refunds, subsidised driving lesson vouchers, and in some cases, fuel and repair costs for vehicles.
This project is funded by the Bolsover Working Neighbourhood Fund.
Wheels to Learn
This project is to help those between 16 and 25 years old to access training and learning opportunities. Various travel options are available, including moped loan, bicycles and public transport costs.
This project is funded by Derbyshire County Council.

Ben was able to keep his job with a local building company in the Derbyshire Dales thanks to his moped loan from Wheels to Work. Previously he was relying on lifts, which could not have continued long-term.
