About the Competition
The Derbyshire Village of the Year competition was relaunched
in 2004 with sponsorship from CALOR, sponsors of the national Calor Village
of the Year® Competition, and is organised by Derbyshire Rural Community Council.
The competition in Derbyshire places emphasis on community development, sustainability and encouraging
rural communities to survive and thrive. Awards are made to the following four categories:
As part of the judging process, judges
visit all the shortlisted villages to meet with a group
of villagers and discuss their entry to the competition.
Judges look for well-balanced, pro-active,
caring village communities which have made the best of local
opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life
for all community members.
The overall winner of the Derbyshire competition
goes forward to the regional stage of the competiton, and then, hopefully, on to the national finals later in the year.
